"I'd rather be in the deepest abyss with you than be apart for a moment. You always knew, didn't you?"

This issue covers everything released in Chapter 33 including Castlevania, various Collections, and more. We also feature interviews with content creators Carn and FrickingNick, delving into their personal and creative journeys. Additionally, we highlight the contributions of community artists and enthusiasts, showcasing their dedication to Dead by Daylight. In Edition 2, we go back to school with a crew of not-so-studious rebels: Fresh from Ormond, The Legion! Various community artists and lore enthusiasts pay homage to them throughout the newsletter.

NEW CONTENT OVERVIEW

Continuing Dead by Daylight's venture into unconventional horror licenses, Castlevania has entered the Entity's Realm, bringing with it a distinct set of Characters, mechanics, and dark aesthetics. As the second license owned by Konami to come to Dead by Daylight since Silent Hill's introduction back in 2020, a lot of its content is reminiscent of how they approached that initial collaboration. Like Silent Hill, the Castlevania chapter covers a wide variety of entries in the series with Dracula's design originating from Symphony of the Night, Trevor and his design from Curse of Darkness, a forthcoming Rift focused on Aria / Dawn of Sorrow, and many other references to other entries. There's no denying Konami strived for this collaboration to act as a love letter to long-time fans of the franchise and give opportunity to play their beloved characters in a new, unique way.

The air hums with an unholy presence, an eternal darkness stirs, and a chill runs down your spine. Count Vlad Tepes Dracula emerges from the billowy fogs with a bloodthirst for those who wronged him and anyone else who crosses his path. His use of shapeshifting empowers his quest for vengeance with special abilities for each form. In Wolf form, powerful hind legs and a gnarly bite give him the upper-hand against his opponents, while fast traveling wings and a small frame in Bat form helps to cover distance and obstacles.

In the shadowed corners, where ancient evils stir, a lone figure stands up against the true embodiment of terror. Trevor Belmont put his life on the line to save humanity, and hardened by his encounters with the undead, his experience with the supernatural makes him well suited for The Fog. His Perks empower him in risky situations and provide relief when danger gets too close for comfort.

And hey, while you're here, check out this amazing fan-made chase music for Dracula, by Alex Wyng!

THE LEGION - JOEY | LORE DIVE

Joey’s story is shared with the other three Legion members, but sadly in both the base lore and Tome for the group he ended up pushed aside in favour of Frank and Julie. We all know the Legion’s story by now; Frank moves to Ormond, finds Julie and her friends and forms the Legion. They vandalise the town, kill a cleaner at a store they’re robbing, and the rest is history.  But while the base lore chooses to focus on Frank, Joey’s role is sadly missed out on almost entirely, with the only specific role he plays in the story is as the catalyst for the Legion’s first murder. It was his firing from the store he worked that got Frank off his ass and brought the Legion down to vandalise the shop, where a cleaner would meet a brutal demise at the four’s hands. Joey had no relevance to anywhere else in the story: much like his fellow footnote Susie, he was merely a tag-along friend of the power couple at the forefront of the Legion, something which was not improved in the Tome story that focussed more on Julie. But the lack of attention isn’t the biggest problem with Joey’s presentation in this media; Joey in his early days can be understood less as a character and more as a teetering pile of racial stereotypes. All we know about Joey until the comic book is that he’s a child of a single mother living in Ormond who can’t hold a job down, was fired from his last one for stealing and has his mix tape addon description written entirely in slang; take notes aspiring writers, because that’s definitely how you write the Legion’s token black character.

Joey symbolises the human cost of the Legion’s activities, the lives that violent thugs like Frank and Julie can push people into and the damage they leave in their wake. Of all the four in the group, he had the most to lose; unlike the other Legion members, he had an earnestly loving relationship with his mother and the two depended on each other to keep food on the table. But despite his best efforts to live a normal life, Frank’s manipulations ensure he also had the least choice in what the group would become. His background, his poverty, his trusting nature and his crush on Susie; each and every element of his friendship with the group was manipulated in the cruellest possible ways such that despite his new life in the Fog as a vicious Killer, it’s almost impossible to see Joey as anything other than a victim.

IconAddon_joeysMixTape.webp

Fortunately Nadia Shammas, the writer of the Legion comic series, seemed to pick up on this and addressed many of the issues with Joey’s early writing in the books, especially the third book which focusses almost entirely on him. Throughout his life in Ormond, Joey’s shown far more than the other Legion members to be trying very, very hard to live a normal, well adjusted teenage boy’s life. He’s the mascot for the school basketball team, he works hard to support his mother who’s struggling to pay the bills, he watches scary movies he isn’t supposed to and spends his time goofing around with his friends and the girl he has an unrequited crush on. Well, at least he wants to. All of the Legion could be said to have “fallen in with the wrong crowd” but it’s truer for Joey than any of the others because Frank manipulated him at every turn.

Frank constantly goaded Joey, trying to push him towards acts of violence and serious harm, but Joey resisted every time. Things were different for him, he insisted to Frank; he couldn’t afford to get in trouble, his mother depended on him, and his race meant that the law was far more likely to chew him up and spit him out if the group were to ever be caught. So whether out of malice, boredom or just to win a bet with Julie, Frank gave Joey the push that would ruin his life, and the rest of their lives, forever. We learned in Julie’s Tome that Joey was fired for stealing a candy bar, but in Joey’s comic it’s revealed that Joey didn’t even steal the bar. Frank did, and was content to allow Joey to take the fall at the hands of his racist boss. Frank never even tells Joey that he took it, meaning that even till this day in the Fog Joey believes that he was fired for no reason other than plain discrimination, unaware that his best friend tricked him.

I cannot overstate just how important the comic series is at recontextualising Joey’s character; he turns from a display of harmful ethnic stereotypes with the depth of a sheet of rice paper into a victim of those same stereotypes tinged with the brutal tragedy of Frank’s manipulations. Joey’s always had his fans (we’re quiet but we’re there, we’re in your waaalllss….) but the comic has given the character a new lease of life and hopefully the outpouring of love that Shammas’ take on the character has provoked will lead to Joey getting more official support from Behaviour, and love from the fans, in the future.

Now all he needs is a surname.

THE LEGION - SUSIE | LORE DIVE

The “killerfication” of Susie Lavoie is one of the smaller, more understated tragedies of Dead by Daylight lore. Sure, she’s got nothing on Charlotte Deshayes, who had to fight for her life for several years while the corpse of her conjoined twin dangled from her chest. And yes, several characters like Max Thompson Jr and Carmina Mora went through so much more than Susie ever did. But, throughout the Legion’s story are several details about Susie’s life that inject an underlying sadness that might be more relatable to DbD players than dragging your brother’s corpse around. And ultimately, Susie chooses to sacrifice everything for a woman she loves who she knows will never love her back the same way, and it’s just sad. I feel for her.

To Susie, her friends were everything. At home, she was verbally and physically abused, and she would often spend her nights at the abandoned Mount Ormond ski resort to get away from her parents. The only people she felt safe around were Julie and Joey. However, neither of them knew that she was gay and that she was in love with Julie, and this is clearly a point of anxiety for Susie.

There is one scene in Issue 1 of the Dead by Daylight Legion comic lays the entire foundation for Susie Lavoie as a character. While the four Legion members are playing Truth or Dare, Frank dares himself to kiss Julie. Susie is very obviously saddened by seeing her crush fall for another man, and Frank notices this. To try to make her feel included, Frank picks Susie to be the next one in the hot seat for Truth or Dare, and she picks Truth, to which he asks her what her biggest fear is. She says “I’m afraid I’m going to die alone. I’m afraid that I’ll look back and see that no one really knew me. Sometimes I wonder if I exist at all.”

Susie is then tortured by these fears over the rest of the story. She’s given a front-row seat to the “watch the love of your life make out with another person” show and she’s often forgotten or ignored by Julie so she can spend more time with Frank.

And then “the incident” happens, in which some brave janitor who valued the merchandise over his life tries to stop The Legion from ransacking a store by grabbing Julie. Frank stabs the poor janitor, then hands the knife to Julie, who also stabs him. At this point the man is dead, but Julie and Frank insist that the other two also stab the guy, because camaraderie.

Susie refuses. She’s not going to do it. But Julie takes advantage of Susie’s undying loyalty to her and has her do it while they both hold the knife. After burying the body, the three other Legion members venture into a thick black fog to investigate a sound, and Susie is left alone (once again confronted by her biggest fear). After some time, the three return, now wearing their full Legion attire from The Entity’s realm and Julie once again uses Susie’s loyalty against her. It’s made clear to Susie that she either has to become a killer with her three friends or she will never see them again.

The comic ends with her saying to Julie “I’d rather be in the deepest abyss with you than be apart for a moment,” and the three others say in unison “You’ll never be alone. We promise.”

"I didn’t need to set out searching, because almost as soon as I had entered the building, so had two others. Both men, whose names I came to know as David King and Dwight Fairfax...or Fairweather. Or something. The men seemed to know each other and, lucky for me, they seemed to be more familiar with the set-up of the building than I was. They’d been here before."

Some years ago, an acclaimed documentary filmmaker disappeared from Hellshire Penitentiary here in Nebraska. There were no eyewitnesses, and no evidence left behind – save for an old, broken dictaphone. Although this dictaphone cannot record audio or even switch-on, recently, it has started to play back macabre recordings of mysterious tales from some unholy realm. These tales are something akin to murder mysteries, only ‘murder’ seems to be the least mysterious thing about them. Apparently, the voice on the dictaphone is that of the same filmmaker who disappeared from Hellshire all those years ago. I have taken to transcribing her words in hopes that I will one day find a way to help her. These are her stories.

These are the Zarina Kassir Mysteries.

- CREATOR SPOTLIGHT -

CARNIVERIS

Carn (or better known as Carniveris) is a 26-year old Dead by Daylight addict from Florida most known for being an Artist main. When she’s not playing DBD, she can be found reading or playing other video games like Valorant, Resident Evil, or Fortnite. She’s been streaming since Twins came out and has spent her time on Twitch trying to make others laugh and make as many friends as possible in the fog. We had the chance to ask her a few questions surrounding Dead by Daylight, her life, and journey in content creation.

Do you think it’s important to switch up content for your audience? I think DBD is one of the more unique gaming communities where people that watch DBD, really only want to see DBD content and consume DBD content, which is perfectly fine for me. I think there are definitely content creators out there that are able to do variety and keep up the same momentum, but I try to stick to DBD for the most part since I know that’s what people want to see. I think there is the option of doing horror adjacent like the Resident Evil Games, but for the most part I stick to what my audience wants to see, which is just DBD. I do take breaks from DBD for my sanity occasionally, like not playing it outside of stream, but I’d rather do a shorter DBD stream than a longer variety stream.

What do you think you excel at - whether it be quietly or loudly? Luck? I think being in the right matches, streaming at the right time, joining the game at the right DLC has been a surprising benefit. I feel very lucky that a killer like the Artist was added in game and so lucky that her power and her aesthetic fit me like a glove. I think there is skill to streaming, but so much of it comes from luck and I’m very thankful because of it. If not Luck, then always being able to talk about something, even if chat isn’t as active.

What is the biggest challenge in remaining consistent? The biggest challenge is your own willpower honestly. It’s one of those jobs where you are your own boss and you’re the only barrier of accountability that’s out there. I try to treat streaming as a job and once I have a schedule I stick to it. I don’t like to take days off outside of my schedule and I don’t like starting late because the second I start to give myself that leeway, I feel like the activity becomes less serious and I won’t be as consistent with it. While I think mental health days are important, I don’t skip streams unless absolutely necessary.

What does a day-to-day look like for you?
It’s definitely a job that is what you make it, but I’ve definitely made it into a 24/7 on call sort of situation. I try to be most active on Twitter and Youtube when I’m not streaming, along with keeping tabs on my Discord server. I will wake up around 9-10am if my work schedule allows me to sleep in, and will periodically stay present on social media until my stream at 8pm EST. After my stream ends around midnight/1am, I’ll stay and check any footage that can be used for Youtube or any clips that can be uploaded the following day onto my socials. I pretty much think about content creation the entire time that I’m awake.

Are there any other areas of content creation you would like to branch into? I would like to be more consistent on socials like TikTok, and even go into lifestyle content on Youtube or Instagram. I have always watched gaming content on Youtube, primarily in the form of Let’s Plays, but I also watched a lot of beauty influencers growing up, and I still kinda envy and admire that route of content creation. DBD and horror games are still a priority, but the ceiling of what can be done with Lifestyle content is just insane. I also really just want PR packages being sent to my house daily.

What is a fun fact your audience may not know about you already? I feel like my stream and chat know so much about me because I’ve always been an open book because I love yapping. Before I started streaming and after I graduated college, I wanted to work in movies either with acting or screenplay writing, but I have really bad stage fright and it never really went anywhere when I lived in LA. I moved back to Florida to pursue my masters in Video Game Production and found streaming along the way.

How do you feel you have impacted the community? I’m again so thankful for the existence of the Artist and I’m really grateful for the fact that so many people come to me whenever they have questions about her or if they need help trying to get better at her power. I would hope that someone finds my streams uplifting and entertaining because it really does make me so happy to stream and I look forward to it every day.

How do your relatives and friends feel about this job? Most of my friends and family know that I stream and are actually really supportive! My mom has always encouraged me to find a job where I could be my own boss, and this is definitely a form of it. She asks me if I’m “Twitching,” instead of working, but hasn’t really watched my streams because she doesn’t know how it works. My friends are definitely incredibly supportive, my best friend and former roommate Cassidy put up with my loud streaming for years and my other best friend Charla is responsible for a lot of the art on my channel and really helped me get my stream off the ground with all of my questions when I first started.

What is your dream collaboration for Dead by Daylight? It’s so crazy, but I actually got both of my dream licenses in the same year! I really wanted Xenomorph and Tiffany in game because I’m a fan of both movies, but I was sad that I ended up not liking the adaptation of both of their powers so I never ended up switching mains (which I’m totally fine with). I would love to see more anime in game though, like Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, or Tokyo Ghoul. Attack on Titan was so fun and successful, so I hope we see more soon.

FRICKINGNICK

Nick (or better known as FrickingNick) picked up Dead by Daylight back in 2017 and has been “hooked” ever since! He started creating content in 2021 with the intention of making it about “anything but gameplay,” choosing instead to focus on the lore, updates, and community surrounding DBD. When not doing anything gaming-related, Nick can typically be found at his day job as a statistical analyst or spending time with his wife and two-year-old son (with a daughter coming this fall)! We had the chance to ask him a few questions surrounding Dead by Daylight, his life, and journey in content creation.

Do you think it’s important to switch up content for your audience? There’s always a balance between what the audience wants to see and the content that makes you happy to create. I try my best to reconcile the two and listen to my audience while also putting my own voice to it or my own spin on it so it stays true to me. I think it’s slightly more important to create content for yourself than your audience. There have been videos that I forced myself to make and people noticed and asked if I was okay, so I feel like if you’re not taking yourself into account then there’s a pretty tangible layer of inauthenticity to your content.

What do you think you excel at - whether it be quietly or loudly? Lately I’ve been building up my spice tolerance and while I’m sure I’m writing checks that my guts will eventually need to pay off, I think I’m doing pretty well.

What is the biggest challenge in remaining consistent? For me, it’s just finding the time! I work full-time and have a 2-year-old, so once I’m done working and daddying for the day, I space out for a good 5-10 minutes weighing the pros and cons of spending my evening yapping about Dead by Daylight into a microphone vs. trying to thin out my backlogs of books, movies, or video games (I’m currently working my way through Bioshock).

What does a day-to-day look like for you? MOST of my content creation is done between the hours of  8 PM and 1 AM. I record voiceovers from scripts that I had previously written in a Google Doc, I play a few rounds of DBD until I get some serviceable footage, make videos out of the voiceovers and gameplay footage, and then go to bed. But wait, there’s more! In bed I research, write, and revise scripts for future videos. Also, I work from home so if there’s a newsworthy thing in the DbD community that day then I’ll step away from my desk, hop on my phone and yap for a few minutes about it, then post it to TikTok.

Are there any other areas of content creation you would like to branch into? I’ve JUST recently branched into two new areas: live streaming and podcasting! Streaming is fun because it allows me to interact more directly with the people who have been watching my TikToks and YouTube videos, and my podcast is called “Hooked Ones,” where I interview guests while we play Dead by Daylight. I spent the first 3 years of my content creation in DbD spaces kind of keeping to myself so these have been my ways of branching out and working with others a little bit.

How do your relatives and friends feel about this job? My 2-year-old demands my wife show him “daddy’s spooky videos on TikTok” sometimes when I’m not around, so I think he’s a fan. Other family members know about it, but I haven’t told them my channel names yet. I basically pitched it to them as “I’m fortunate enough to have been able to turn gaming into a part-time job,” and they think it’s pretty cool. They’d probably be alarmed if I went full-send and quit my day job for it, though.

What is a fun fact your audience may not know about you already? I’m into music! I’ve played guitar for 20 years, and I’m pretty decent at being able to figure out songs by listening to them for a bit. One day I was trying to find a lo-fi version of the Dead by Daylight theme to use on Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok, and I realized there wasn’t one so I spent the afternoon making one.

How do you feel you have impacted the community? I’ve tried my best to make a positive impact. I talk a lot about Dead by Daylight lore, and I make sure to highlight the reasons why the diversity shown in the characters’ backstories is important. Not only does it give the survivors and killers context and depth, but it helps people in the community feel seen and represented. And while I doubt I’ve been able to change anyone’s mind on why representation matters, I hope I’ve helped people find characters and stories they can connect with on a more personal level.

What is your dream collaboration for Dead by Daylight? All my favorite horror franchises are in DbD, so now my wishlist is a bunch of weird ones. But I think Jacket from Hotline Miami would be such a cool killer in the game. He’s a mentally unstable John Wick-like character who wears different animal masks that give him different abilities to mow down legions of mobsters. Making it so different masks give him different powers as a killer would be pretty cool. Maybe one mask lets Jacket hit survivors over obstacles, another lets him vault quicker, etc. The Entity has corrupted far more noble people, so I think from a lore perspective it would work too. Sherlock Holmes as a survivor would be pretty neat as well.

Alongside their interviews, both Carn and Nick were given a speed

round of WOULD YOU RATHER questions.
What will they choose? Let's find out!

FIND YOURSELF IN MOUNT ORMOND RESORT or EYRIE OF CROWS?
CARN:
"Eyrie of Crows because I hate being cold. Plus I think I could take refuge in the nest in main building."
NICK: "Ormond so I could look for the Golden Toolbox Easter Egg that still hasn’t been found there. (It’s in main building above a window in Eyrie of Crows btw)"

ESCAPE FROM THE DREDGE or THE UNKNOWN?
CARN:
"The Dredge for sure. I appreciate my flesh not being worn like a meatsuit, even if he’ll manifest as my deepest and darkest fears."
NICK: "The Unknown because I’m a huge fan of dodgeball and playing against it is basically that."

BE IN A DIRE SITUATION WITH ELLEN RIPLEY or LAURIE STRODE?
CARN:
"If I can do old Laurie, then Laurie, but I think Ellen is more consistent in a crisis."
NICK: "Ellen Ripley for SURE. 99% of the disasters in the first three Alien movies come from people not listening to her. Not me. She tells me to jump and my feet are off the ground before she finishes the word."

MAKE USE OF CHEMICAL TRAP or WIRETAP?
CARN:
"Chemical Trap for the BM, forever and always."
NICK: "Chem Trap! Some of my favorite clips on Shorts or TikTok are of people having a standoff with a killer who refuses to break a Chemical Trapped pallet."

GUEST ON JANE ROMERO'S TALK SHOW or PRODUCE MUSIC WITH YUN-JIN LEE?
CARN:
"Make out with Yun-Jin Lee."
NICK: "Jane’s talk show. While I would REALLY like to work with THE Yun-Jin Lee, 4 out of her last 5 clients died in a horrible fire, so statistically speaking…"

Perks and you

Susie and Joey both are incredibly notable figures not just in Legion, but for Dead by Daylight. When you have a game that introduces characters, there’ll always be people who see themselves in them and love to use them as ways to express themselves. With Legion being a group of young adults and teenagers, it’s incredibly easy to see why people click with them. I was very lucky with how a commission client paid for many new icons to be added to the Perk Pack itself, speaking to just how much people really connect with these characters and want to both represent them and champion specific characters, so I take a lot of pride in making sure they’re both depicted with care and are not just recognizable, but also show their cooperation with other Legion members, as some icons have pairs or all four working together on an icon.

iconPerks_LanguidTouch.png

For visual references, using the comic run, both Susie and Joey have had their own personal lores explored and expanded. It gave me a lot more resources and references to take from the comic to showcase specific moments from their stories in the Perk Pack, including interpreting visuals of their interactions and relationships in each of the issues.

With Susie’s perk designs, both Hex: Blood Favor and Merciless Storm depict the final moments Susie had when taken into the Fog by the Entity when she was lured in by a vision of Julie. Genetic Limits also, while mostly a reskin, is meant to showcase the psychological pressure of fitting in with her group, to stay included, as in her mind everyone is offering their knife to use similar to the store janitor they had everyone kill together.

With Joey’s perk designs, the major standout design has to be Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance being a nod and callback to a line in the comics about his nervous tick and bad habit being him plucking out hairs to try and relieve himself of those feelings, giving reason to why he has a shaved head. It’s something I also personally resonated a lot with when I read the comics, especially since Susie was the person he confided in about that tick, strengthening their bond and friendship to a deeper moment of trust.

While the Perk Pack tries to spread out the designs from each Legion member, I wanted it to depict many of them doing their own thing, or imply their cooperation has something to do with their effectiveness or relationships, such as Unforeseen being Frank and Joey reaching out to a generator, the previously mentioned Merciless Storm featuring a distressed Susie and sinister Julie, and of course Lethal Pursuer chasing after a Survivor while all four leap forward as a team, ready to cut them down together.

I’m eagerly awaiting for any future comics or more expanded lore to use and reference in my icon work, as my personal favorite member of Legion is Joey and I desperately hope he gets further expanded upon as seeing teenagers and young adults in the Killer role is fascinating for story writing

Update 8.2.0 saw the release of the long-awaited Castlevania chapter! Revealed initially in the anniversary livestream 3 months earlier, many folks (myself included) have been waiting in excitement and really delving deep into the franchise to get any taste of what Behaviour is going to bring to the table.

Now that it’s here, we can finally dive into the release, what Dracula and Trevor Belmont bring to the table, and how the community reception has been!

On top of this, I’ll be going over the Killer updates and Perk changes that joined the game alongside this update.

DRACULA'S POWER

The Dark Lord has arrived with quite a unique power - being our first true stance-shifter to arrive into the fog! He can shapeshift between three different forms, his Vampire Form, Wolf Form, and Bat Form. Each form gives access to a unique special ability.

VAMPIRE FORM:

Dracula’s Vampire Form is the default form he spawns in. He’s tall, moves at 4.6m/s, and features a 32-meter Terror Radius. Additionally, he gains access to his classic Hellfire spell, a Castlevania staple.

Hellfire allows The Dark Lord to spawn 7 pillars (with a 1-meter diameter) forward in a line. This pillar passes through any obstacles that are lower than female Survivor height and can travel up/down by that same height. Survivors hit by this are dealt damage.

WOLF FORM:

The Wolf Form allows The Dark Lord to shapeshift into a wolf (as the name suggests). This wolf is shorter, moves at the same 4.6m/s with a 32-meter Terror Radius and scratch marks and blood pools become more easily visible. Direct moonwalking is slower and Survivors who run leave Scent Orbs that point to the direction of the Survivor. Upon collection, Scent Orbs provide a ~4.4% Haste boost and reduced cooldown on the powerful Pounce ability.

The Pounce ability allows The Dark Lord to charge up to two Pounces, lunging forward and briefly being able to readjust direction to prepare for the second Pounce. Survivors hit by this are dealt damage.

BAT FORM:

Bat Form is the mobility stance, and allows The Dark Lord to transform into a Bat and maneuver the map at a whopping 6m/s on top of flying over pallets and windows. Additionally, Dracula is able to teleport to any vaultable object within 32 meters of his location over a period of time.

DRACULA'S PERKS

DOMINANCE
Dominance is a Totem and Chest defense Perk. Whenever a Survivor interacts with a Totem or a Chest for the first time, it blocks for 8 seconds and you see the aura of the blocked object. This can be super useful in builds that require totem defense. For example, it might synergize really well with the classic Hex: Pentimento and Hex: Plaything build.

HEX: WRETCHED FATE
Hex: Wretched Fate is a perk that provides reasonable game slowdown. When the first Generator is completed, the Obsession receives a massive 33% repair speed debuff, but will also see the totem within 12 meters. This doesn’t have as many synergies (maybe on some level with Save the Best for Last) but it definitely can stand on its own as a good perk.

HUMAN GREED
Human Greed is a pseudo-tracking Perk that utilizes Chests as a means to track. You see all unopened Chests, and any time a Survivor comes within 8 meters of one you see their aura for 3 seconds. Every 30 seconds you’re also able to close opened Chests. This Perk would work well with other tracking assists like Lethal Pursuer.

Overall, Dracula has been very well received.
For such a technically complex power it appears Behaviour really knocked this one out of the park.
Most folks seem really happy about it (myself included)!

Trevor Belmont is the Survivor of this chapter, coming with three very unique Perks and boasting his Castlevania: Curse of Darkness design. Let’s go over the Perks and the possible use cases for them

TREVOR'S PERKS

EXULTATION
Exultation is the absolute perfect Perk for the item-goblins out there like myself. Whenever you stun the Killer with a Pallet you not only upgrade your item, but you also recharge 25% of it. On top of this, if you escape you get to keep the upgraded item. Combine this with Dramaturgy or a Chest build and begin upgrading those Broken Keys, Flashlights, and Med-Kits for best results. This is my favourite Perk of this release as a whole.

EYES OF BELMONT
Eyes of Belmont is basically Lethal Pursuer for Survivors. Whenever a Generator is completed, the Killer’s aura is revealed for 3 seconds. On top of this, any aura reading effects that show the Killer’s aura for a set time are increased by 2 seconds. Use this with literally any duration-based Killer aura reading perk, Scene Partner, Dark Sense, Hardened, literally any of them. Note I’ve seen a lot of folks use Object of Obsession thinking these two work together - they unfortunately do not as Object works by showing the Killer your aura and you seeing it back as a result.

MOMENT OF GLORY
Moment of Glory is high-risk but high-reward. When you unlock/rummage 2 Chests it activates. Once injured, you are afflicted with Broken and healed after 60 seconds of not taking damage. Essentially, if you’re good in chase this Perk basically forces the Killer to commit to you lest they lose the health state they just dealt. It synergizes really only with Shiny Coin and Appraisal to maximize the uses you can get out of the Perk.

Overall, Trevor has also been well received.
Many were introduced to this version of Trevor with this Chapter and his Perks all change the game in interesting ways that feel not just fun, but also fair.

HATCH or HOOK?

HORRORS FROM THE DEEP | August 6th

AZULA: Super amazing attention to detail, very on brand for a super briny skin. This is really cool and I'm basically recoiling in my seat just thinking about the texture. Do you think it's edible or...? Anyway,
Hatch.

DWEET: Someone's in a crabby mood... I REALLY like this skin and how it shows that Dredge will take even non-human looking things to cover itself with! The way it covers itself is also very reminiscent of how some crabs make their home out of anything. Fitting and smart!
HATCH.

LUKE: This design is intense and seriously unnerving - exactly what I love to see from The Dredge. I do believe that the less is more approach would have benefitted this skin’s overall creepiness, but the maximalist final product is still very effective. There is something very macabre about the unnatural amalgamation of shells and pincers that could only be pulled off by a character like The Dredge. If I saw this creature while scuba diving, I would be scared as hell. Nice to see Dredgey coming out of its shell!
HATCH.

ZADE: This is possibly the scariest skin in the game as I have a firm dislike of crustaceans and I am allergic to shrimp. Is there a shrimp filter I can switch on? A very effective fishy cosmetic for our resident Boogeyman.
HATCH.

AZULA: Very extremely cool. I am a big ocean enthusiast especially when it comes down to bioluminescence. I think my favourite part would be the colour choices, honestly. Reds, purples and blues always look really great together and here there isn't an over-saturation of either. It has been mixed just right to really give it that deep ocean feel.
HATCH.

DWEET: Not my favorite Blight skin ever, but it is definitely unique and quite visually stunning! I love the tendrils extending from his back and the usage of his deformed jaw as being tentacles oozing out. Grotesque and very marine inspired!
HATCH.

LUKE: I’d call that an Aquatic Anomal-omenon! The story behind this design is really interesting and the execution is even better. The bright blue tentacles on the mouth and tendrils on the back highlight just how unnatural and Lovecraftian this design is. Not to mention they really compliment the bloody auburns and dull, matte greys of the rest of the body beautifully. I can’t help comparing this to Yui’s “Forest Guide” Kitsune rift skin, which would have benefitted from this kind of colour-matching and light touch on the bright, vivid effects. Another phenomenal skin for The Blight!

NOIR | August 13th

AZULA: Very cute. I'm not overly fond on the usage of so many belts that seems to be happening very frequently, and I think the outfit would benefit from cutting down on them. The blues are nice, but I'm not exactly keen on it having three different hues (trousers, accent trims, hair). The shirt however is VERY cute, I love the suspenders and I think this overall is a win for Haddie.
HATCH.

DWEET: HADDIE! I love the theme around this outfit and I think it was actually done really well. The main thing I am not a huge fan of are the blue accents since they feel a bit thrown in. The corset belt and blouse combo is iconic and a lovely look for her!
HATCH.

LUKE: Noir? More like NAUR! This outfit is visually interesting, but illogical in the way it blends different eras and styles. Is she an aristocrat? A detective? pirate? Who knows! Regardless, Haddie’s Noir cosmetic is different, so for that it gets a
HATCH.

ZADE: The bright blue hat ribbon that broke the camel’s back. While I like the white blouse and black pants, the bright accents confuse me! Noir should mean muted or achromatic, to me.
HATCH.

AZULA: A very solid design, no complaints other than it's for Jonah.
HATCH.

DWEET: I think this is the best representation of classic noir, detective films from this collection! Not only is Jonah perfectly fitting for the theme, the outfit itself is really honing into that idea. Love it!
HATCH.

LUKE: This is a strong design with a clear vision. I don’t necessarily see my idea of ‘Noir’ in this mismatched three-piece, but as a fusion with the world of DBD and the character of Jonah Vasquez, I like what the designers came up with. (Are those handcuffs on his belt, by the way? And here’s me thinking they were trying to rebrand Jonah…)
HATCH.

ZADE: Not understanding the idea behind combat boots on a classy detective, but I like the classic coat and dress shirt.
HATCH.

AZULA: Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous. I've been dying for another Jane skin for a while - this one is really cute. I'm a big fan of the art-deco blazer and the cute little bow at her neck. I'm not a crazy fan of the hair, I think I would've preferred a hairstyle similar to Lady Dimitrescu's from Resident Evil 8. I don't think I would've given her gloves, but that's just personal preference.
HATCH.

DWEET: Noir meets Art Deco meets... Joan Crawford? I like it! It's a really different look for Jane and much more elegant. I can see her playing the secretary whose withholding more than meets the eye.
HATCH.

LUKE: The most successful of the three Noir offerings in my opinion. Here’s the proof that clean lines, nice symmetry and a simple colour palette are often more effective than overaccessorisation and unnecessary detail. And what a whimsical updo!
HATCH.

ZADE: Not quite what I think of when I hear “noir.” I dig the black and white color scheme, but the ruffles and patterns are a bit bold for the theming. Ultimately, a...
